Purpose:

The purpose of the Leadership Development Fund is to provide financial resources for developing leaders for ministry in the CCOGM in accordance with the current vision.

The fund will be used to:

Provide Financial Assistance to those training to be pastors within the Church of God through the Fellows Program.  Provide Financial Assistance for recent graduates to participate for 6 to 12 months in an apprenticeship experience at a Church of God congregation. Provide Financial Assistance for credentialed ministers of the CCOGM wanting to upgrade their academic education. Provide Financial Assistance for the development of lay leaders in leadership within Church of God congregations. Provide Financial Assistance for regional training for any or all of the above.

Individuals applying for financial assistance from the Fund must apply through their local congregation and submit the prescribed application form complete with all the required information.

Applications for financial assistance for lay leaders training seminars must be received at least one (1) month prior to the event.

Applications for financial assistance to sponsor training through regional events must be received at least three (3) months prior to the event.

Applications from an individual or congregation wanting to participate in the apprenticeship of a recent graduate, or from a congregation offering a ministry experience for a second career person in training can be made by way of a letter to Ministry Services to begin discussion and negotiation.

Disbursement of Funds:

It is our policy that disbursement of funds for approved applicants will be upon the completion of the course and the presentation of an official receipt through the local congregation.

TYPES OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Academic Upgrade for Credentialed Ministers:

Someone currently involved in ministry but wanting to improve his/her academic education leading to a degree or certification may apply for a grant. It would be important to show on the application how the course(s) will benefit the applicant’s ministry.

Apprenticeship/Ministry Experience:

A recent graduate wanting to gain experience and exposure to ministry in a congregation can initiate an arrangement with the recommendation from a supervisor in leadership of that congregation to enter into a partnership and a joint agreement with Ministry Services to provide financial support for the recent graduate for a period of 6 to 12 months. A congregation may negotiate a similar arrangement with Ministry Services for a person in that congregation called to ministry as a Second Career and needing Ministry Experience, and can benefit from financial support for a period of 6 to 12 months as part of his/her preparation for ministry. This arrangement will necessitate consultation with the Credentials Division.

Training for Lay Leaders:

Individuals and/or the leadership of a congregation may apply for a grant for one or more lay leaders in a congregation to attend workshops, seminars, or other types of training. The application must show how the training will develop the skills and effectiveness of the lay leader, and how the congregation would benefit. All applications must be signed off by the pastor or the Chair of the Board or Leadership Team.

Regional Training Events:

Two or more Church of God congregations in a province or region may want to sponsor a training event for vocational or lay leaders. A joint application for a grant from the Endowment Fund will be considered. A cap of 75% of seminar costs would be in place.

NOTE: All applications must be submitted on an annual basis. Grants will be awarded based on number of applications received and funds available.
